"Somebody Save"

Flipping through the news I keep looking at all the hurt and pain around us and wonder how can I help? There are people suffering from disease, destruction, broken homes, and so much more, who just need someones prayers and help. My heart so often aches for others and just want to be part of their life to support. I truly believe it is our job as Christians to help those around us no matter how small it is, a smile, a talk, or just being there.

Sometimes we don't know what others are going through and their troubles. We walk by our neighbors, friends, strangers, and family without ever noticing that fading smile or pain within. They put on a facade to hide the pain, the destruction, the hurt. But what if we took the time to look past the masks people wear? We may not need to know the details, we just need them to know we care. Pray for them and their need even if you don't know what that need is!

Sometimes it appears we just get so absorbed with our own life, our own troubles, that we forget there is a world in need. There are children being beat and abused, husbands and wife's struggling to keep their marriage together, elderly going without medicine and care, jobs being lost, terminal illness being diagnosed, and more pain in the world than can be written. While every person is different our common thread is humanity. With humanity comes pain and realization that we want someone to save us.

Jesus is the ultimate savior who came to heal the broken hearted and the sick, touch hearts, bless the broken, and unravel the destruction around us. God's second commandment is to LOVE others! To me love is being there through the good and bad. And to be Christian it is to love everyone, your family, friends, church, neighbors, coworkers, enemies, and strangers. We must let them know we are here to save. How do we do that? Start with a prayer for others, volunteer at a local shelter, help an elderly neighbor with groceries, lend a ear, buy a stranger their gas, or more than anything be a friend. Is it hard sometimes, of course, but it is our duty to love, to save.

This mindset is what led me to write the song, "Somebody Save". The song talks about the hurt that troubles me most, when love is absent. Those who are belittled to feel like nothing, so hurt their soul slips away. Those who don't fit in, who are made fun of, who are misunderstood, criticized, abused, and hurt. Those who feel they have no other options but death to others or themselves. Absence of Love. What if someone would have been a friend, said a kind word, make them feel beautiful, show them the love of Christ? Would the end result be the same? I know I want to be the one to save, to love, to wrap my arms around and show kindness.

What will you do to save a life, to show you care, and most important to love?
